  • Use centimeter cubes to measure objects.  
  • Use the measurements to compare objects to one another.
  • Students are using subtraction skills to compare measurements.

  • Students will have two 10 centimeter sticks to do today's assignment.
  • The terms shorter/longer will be used in today's assignment.  
  • Students will be making comparisons in this assignment.

Lesson 4

  • We will use centimeter cubes to measure today's lesson.  Instead of sending 10 individual centimeter cubes, I will be sending home a centimeter stick.  There are 10 centimeter cubes in a 10 stick. 
  • Every centimeter cube is exactly the same length, so we can use them as length units.  So our stick will be called a 10 length unit.
  • We will use the term "about" to describe the length of an object that is not exactly a certain number of centimeter cubes long.  For example, if something is closer to 4 centimeter cubes long than 5, say it is about 4 centimeter cubes long.
  • Thank you for returning the baggie with the measuring tools inside.

  • You will not need any measuring tools for tonight's lesson
  • We used two different colored masking tape to measure to distance of two different paths to the door.  Even though the paths were different, the total distance was the same.  
  • Students will be comparing the lengths of different paths from a map in today's homework.
