Welcome to Counselor Johnson's Page!
Thank you for visiting!
My name is Kelli Johnson, but some of my favorite people call me "Counselor Johnson". I was born and raised in Monticello, Iowa and now live in Goodell with my husband, Adam, and daughter Charlotte.
I receive my B.A. degree from the University of Dubuque in psychology and Criminal Justice. I worked for 2 years in a residential treatment facility with juvenile delinquents and also substitute teaching at the high school level. I then attended University of Northern Iowa to receive my Masters in Counseling.
I am a certified K-12 School Counselor. This is my third year as the K-6 School Counselor at Belmond-Klemme. My main goal as the elementary counselor is to be visible and approachable for students, teachers, and parents. The world we live in presents our students with many challenges. My job is to provide students with social/emotional support so that they can be successful academically.
I do this proactively by teaching classroom lessons bi-monthly. We work on social/emotional, academic, and career skills. Check out my Classroom Counseling Page to learn and understand what I teach students in the classroom.
I also offer small group counseling that may focus on specific concerns such as divorce, bullying, coping skills, self-esteem, and more. Small groups meet weekly are determined by teacher or student requests, data, and responsive services.
I am also available to meet with students individually on a variety of topics by self, parent, or teacher request. Individual counseling is short-term in nature and is confidential.
I also help run programs based on needs that I see in the school district and community. We currently run the Backpack Program through the United Way of North Iowa with help from Eaton Corporation in Belmond. This program helps meet the needs of many students in our district. Jacobson Elementary also runs the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) that promotes and rewards positive behavior in our building.
