Welcome to 6th Grade

Hi my name is Connie Halfpop. This year I begin my 34th year of teaching.  It seems like just yesterday I stepped foot in my first classroom. My first teaching job was in Graettinger Iowa where I taught 5-8 Language Arts/Reading from Dec. - May.  (I had just graduated from ISU that Decemember. The next fall  I began as  a Title I reading teacher for 1st and 2nd grade in Ottumwa, Iowa.   After that year I taught 1st grade for 2 years and then 2nd grade for 2 years in Warsaw, Indiana.  Then I moved to Belmond.  (This is the place I call home because I graduated from High School here.)  I have taught in Belmond since 1988.  My assignments have included Kindergarten, First Grade, Multiage 1-2, School Improvement Coordinator, and 6th grade Language Arts/Reading Teacher.  I love all the grades I have taught, knowing that each child is special and each age brings new experiences.

I feel that my main role in 6th grade is to help children develop a greater love/appreciation for the written word.  While in 6th grade your child will explore lots of different genres of reading and experience reading in new and different ways.  I hope that throughout the year we can find just the right books for your child as I have quite a collection of all kinds of texts.

Remember that is my job to expose your child to new challenges and give him/her all kinds of ways to become successful.  I am here to assist you at every turn and hope that you will step up to help me to help your child.
Please reach out through a phone call, and e-mail or a visit so that we can best serve your child.
